Users with an iSTAR Pulsar+ model equipped with an appropriate license may download their data directly from their device to a compatible external drive via USB-C connection and then process the data offline in our Immersive Studio application for Windows.
This functionality is unique to the iSTAR Pulsar+ model only, however upgrade enquiries may be raised with our sales team via sales@nctechimaging.com.
Before proceeding, users should be aware of compatibility guidelines regarding the usage of external devices with iSTAR Pulsar+, which may be found here. Currently only one specific device is supported by NCTech and verified as working without issue.
Ensure iSTAR Pulsar+ in "Ready" status with mode switch to the Right
Connect mobile device to iSTAR Pulsar+ via Wi-Fi
See this article for further information on connecting mobile device to iSTAR Pulsar+ in Right mode.
Launch iSTAR Pulsar mobile app, locate capture to be downloaded within the Feed section
Connect external drive to iSTAR Pulsar+
Allow up to 10 seconds for external drive to be detected by iSTAR Pulsar+.
Users should not connect the external drive to iSTAR Pulsar+ until it is fully powered up to "Ready" status - connecting it prematurely will result in the drive not being detected.
If this scenario is encountered, users should disconnect the drive, power iSTAR Pulsar+ down completely and then power it back up to "Ready" status, and then connect the drive.
Users experiencing any issues with iSTAR Pulsar not detecting a connected external drive may consult this article for further assistance.
Tap "Copy to USB-C" against capture to copy
Users will be asked to confirm the Copy action, tapping "Yes" will queue the capture for copying:
The capture will immediately begin copying to the external drive, showing a percentage progress indicator as the data transfers:
While copying to drive, iSTAR Pulsar will show a solid green system LED and a pulsing blue Wi-Fi LED:
Users may now queue any additional captures for download, they will download one-by-one in the order that they were added to the queue.
Once all queued captures have completed copying across, the unit will return to "Ready" status, displaying 2 solid green LEDs:
Each capture will copy to it's own folder on the drive, this will be of the format XXXXX-YYYYYYYYYY, where XXXXX is the Device ID and YYYYYYYYY is the individual Capture ID. The below screenshot shows 2 captures which have been downloaded to the SSD "Local Disk (D:)":
You may now process the data using Immersive Studio.
Batch processing of captures
Note that it is possible to select multiple captures to add them to the queue to copy. Instructions on how to access this feature can be found in the "Batch capture management" section of the user manual.
